“Powerful, today was so powerful,” said a woman who traveled from Mason City to Des Moines for the Iowa National Day of Prayer at the Iowa Capitol on May 6. “I don’t think I’ve ever felt the anointing of the Spirit so strongly.”
“There’s no question God was in that place,” echoed Bob Vander Plaats, president and CEO of The FAMiLY Leader, which hosted the event. “From the pastors and government officials praying, to the worship and the heart of the people joining in crying out for revival, today’s gathering resounded with the spirit of If 7:14 – God’s people, called by His name, humbling themselves, seeking His face, repenting of wickedness, and asking God to hear from heaven, forgive our sin, and heal our land.”
The Iowa National Day of Prayer welcomed a Capitol Rotunda filled with prayer warriors from across the state to join in prayer under the theme of Joel 2:12, in which the Lord says, “Return to Me with all your heart.”
Prayers were led not only by pastors and community leaders, but also by Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds, Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg, Attorney General Tom Miller, Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig, Rep. Brooke Boden, and radio personality Van Harden.
