At The FAMiLY LEADER, we want to make sure you know about one of the most important Supreme Court cases of our lifetime. And to ask you to pray with us for our nation’s future.
On Tuesday, Dec. 5, arguments were heard before the U.S. Supreme Court in a case that will dramatically impact religious liberty in America.
Though our Founding Fathers enshrined your religious liberty in the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, activists and like-minded judges want you to believe that you must abandon your religious and moral convictions when you run a business. Worse still, they argue the government should be able to force you to publicly agree with its position on same-sex marriage, even if that means violating your faith.
At issue in Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission, is whether the state of Colorado can compel baker and artist Jack Phillips, who opposes same-sex marriage out of sincere religious beliefs, to custom design a cake for a same-sex ceremony.
This is wrong. Creative professionals should be free to create products and messages consistent with their convictions without threat of government punishment.
Understand, Jack willingly and gracefully serves his homosexual customers. But like other artists, Jack won’t make custom cakes with any and every message. He won’t make racist cakes; he doesn’t design Halloween cakes; he won’t make sexually explicit cakes; he won’t custom bake a cake celebrating a divorce; and he won’t promote same-sex marriage. But the government is trying to force him to.
Ask yourself, should the government be able to force a Democrat speechwriter to write a speech for President Trump? Should an atheist sign-maker be forced to create billboards proclaiming the existence of God?
For this case is far bigger than same-sex marriage. If the government can force an artist like Jack to create custom art against his faith and cripple his business if he doesn’t, it can do the same thing to any artist or creative professional, no matter what belief they hold.

- For our nation, that religious liberty may be preserved for future generations.
